report kad 2nd day (takde report tak sempat borak, hari mau hujan ribut petir)
*reminder to rafiq: please buy a big-big sturdy umbrella..*

harini amir minum susu 15 oz..... okay la nih...
ku dah risau ngn semalam 10 oz ajer.....
tapi unlimited face-to-boob time when we are at home...
as long as he wants.... skang aku tak kisah selama mana..
just think as... alang2 tu dapat gak pahala with every sedutan...

oh yer aku perasan.. seblah nipp luka at 3-4 places...
terkejut bila aku belek2 kat pantry hahahah..
patut la pedih sket lately...
amir suka isap seblah... gentel seblah..
faster let downs that way kot..
reminder... cut his nails... gile tahan lasak nipp aku..
biasa dah kot by now... gigi pun kuar at 4 months...
seb baik aku guna medela FS.... gentle suction
kalau spectra.. sure susu ku pink...

milk preparation for tomorrow....
hope all goes well...

I think its too much to ask la kalau nak hantar amir nursery tapi die tak nangis bila ditinggalkan.... sebab skang ni pon akan nangis bila tinggalkan kat rumah maktok die yg tinggalkan die since he was 2 mths old...

so i have resigned to the fact that he will cry..
but I hope he will learn to have fun and enjoy there after the leaving cry...
and not worry whether mama/papa will ever come back or not...
coz mama & papa WILL ALWAYS come back... dont worry...

susu EBM ade dalam peti...
tapi its the weekends, amir hanya mahukan the freshest milk (direct from source)...
kalu sua botol, die tolak tepi...

esok, aku 90% yakin boleh berpuasa....
maka esok plan is adalah utk berpuasa...
the last 3 days aku tak posa... tak try pun utk posa...
sahur tak bangun..
sebab dah tau susu tak cukup....
kesian die tak dapat tido malam.. tido kul 11-12 malam..
due to penat...then malam2 pun bangun banyak kali cari susu...

aku check2 balik blog aku...
1 month back.. yep.. its that time of the month where supply dips..
kalau campo posa lak... harus lagi kurang susu...

tapi mungkinkah aku konfiden semacam skang ni sebab aku baru melantak buffet?? heheheh
we'll see how tomorrow goes...

aku suka weekends sebab 100% direct feeding... then stimulation yg diberi oleh baby terhadap penghasilan susu memang bagus...
tu pasal isnin and selasa, susu akan ade more than usual...
maka boleh la berpuasa pada hari isnin dan selasa...
(but then also subject to whether aku plak dehydrated or not....
pening kepala gile bila dehydrated, berpinau.... kenkadang tak tahan.. maka harus ku telan panadol extend... maka end up tak posa gak)

last year ade byk gak hari aku tak posa.. tapi aku senyap sensorang jelah..
rafiq cam heran apsal last year larat, this year tak larat plak..
(sebnanye memang tak larat dari dulu hahahhaa.)
this is another reason for this entry.. last year bila aku tak posa...
bila rafiq tanye, posa tak... aku jawab "tah, posa kot"..
segan kot bila tak larat posa... ade je ibu nyusu lain yg boleh posa penuh...
basically same je last year and this year... tak larats!!

tahun ni, entry ni, bukan nak berbangga tak posa... tapi supaya org sedar, takyah be ashamed if ur not able to fast (tuju kat pregnant/nursing mothers je la nih)..
we have been given the keringanan to not fast.... u dont have to be in a dying state before u can break fast...
nursing our baby is so important that we are given this keringanan...
aku cam segan last year dgn ke tak laratan aku.... tahun ni make an effort nak ilangkan perasaan yg tak bertempat tu...
some people sanggup posa and biarla susu kering... lets give formula...we can fast and babies still get milk...
that is not the way.... if posa tu menjadikkan kita unable to provide our babies with our milk.... jadik tak cukup.. then jadik wajib tak puasa... haram berpuasa..
breastfeeding tu dituntut .... sangat2 la perlu BF ni..

to all, tolong jangan emo ye bace blog ni....
nak komen pape, komen lek lok...
biasala.. bab religion ni cam sensitip sket...
tapi esok aku konfident utk berposa.. ganbarru yo!

next time tak dapek tido malam disebabkan nak kena susukan baby..ingatlah hadis ini

In addition, Anas relates this hadith from al Tabarani:

Sallama, the nurse to the Prophet's (sallalahu aleyhi wa salaam) son Ibrahim said, 'O Messenger of God, you have brought tidings of all good things to men, but not to women.' He said, 'Did your women friends put you up to asking me this question?' 'Yes, they did,' she replied, and he said,' Does it not please any one of you that if she is pregnant by her husband and he is satisfied with that, she receives the reward of one who fasts and prays for the sake of Allah? And when her labor pains come, no one in the heavens or the earth knows what is concealed in her womb to delight her? And when she delivers, not a mouthful of milk flows from her, and not a suck does she give, but that she receives, for every mouthful and every suck the reward of one good deed. And if she is kept awake at night by her child, she receives the reward of one who frees seventy slaves for the sake of Allah.'"

p/s: alamak .. selepas aku dok gooogle google, aku jumpa website nih.. yg cakap ibu menyusu tak perlu puasa.. sebab puasa mmg akan effect susu... (tapi kalau nak posa, still boleh, takde halangan)... tapi ibu mengandung perlu cuba (prove intention) untuk berpuasa.... kena sahur lewat and sentiasa makan dari berbuka till sahur.... kalau end up still rase takleh posa, baru buka... tapi utk ibu menyusu tak perlu prove intention cam ibu mengandung.....

tapi aku skarang ni, usually praktikkan yang macam ibu mengandung...akan sahur gakla, cuba utk posa... unless kalau aku tau useless, then awal2 aku dah decide takyah posa .. maka tak bangun sahur pon...

hmm tak kisahla ibu ngandung ke ibu nyusu ke...... nak cuba posa, or terus tak posa terus...... yg penting, asalkan susu amir cukup ... tgkla esok camne..

Aku suka artikel nih, paste yg aku suka jer

If you plan to breastfeed, make sure you:

  1. Learn a lot about breastfeeding, from the right sources. To find the right source ni agak tricky jugak. Sometimes nurse kat klinik pun taktau apa2 tentang exclusive BF (Sori ya nurse..).
  2. Make good networking with breastfeeding moms. Reading alone won’t help, unless you don’t face many problems to breastfeed during the early days.
  3. Know what to expect when you breastfeed… Sorenipples, engorgement, etc.
  4. Know where to go when you face problem. Definitely not your makcik who never breastfeed her babies. Go to LC or any friends who experienced it.
  5. Smart enough to differentiate between ‘excuses’ to not to BF and the true things those make you fail to BF.
  6. It’s from you. Say you want to BF. Not you have to BF. Don’t stressing yourself out just because your friends BF, and you don’t want to be called ‘a lousy mother’. Every mother wants to give the very best to her baby, ain’t it?

Things won’t make you fail to breastfeed:
  1. You don’t produce milk during the first few days. It is perfectly normal.
  2. You undergo c-section.
  3. You give birth to a boy (There’s a myth says that a baby boy’s mother can’t breastfeed cos the milk won’t meet the baby’s demand).
  4. You don’t have ‘urut lancar susu’.
  5. Your baby has jaundice. Breastmilk jaundice is normal, bukan sebab susu tak serasi dengan baby.
  6. You don’t produce milk during pregnancy.
  7. You didn’t do breast and nipple exercise during pregnancy.
  8. You have small breast.
  9. You have inverted, flat or small nipple.
  10. You don’t eat any lactogenic food.
  11. Your mom, sisters, makciks, bini Penghulu Kampung failed to breastfeed.
  12. Your baby cries out his lung.

Breastfeeding is
  1. Natural BUT needs effort.
  2. The best beat for your baby.
  3. Supply vs demand concept. The more the demand, the more the supply.
  4. A commitment.
  5. FOR YOU! Yes, YOU!

Breastfeeding is not…
  1. Only for this and that type of mothers.
  2. Only for lucky mothers.
  3. Only for mothers who have normal deliveries.
  4. Only for mother who claims she wants to give the best for her baby.
  5. A luck. It’s an effort.
  6. A magic potion that makes your baby a superhuman.

Are you willing to…
  1. Keep on breastfeeding despite your baby cries, wind, gets jaundice, unwell, etc.
  2. Pekakkan telinga, butakan mata on any unsolicited advise.
  3. Lose good night sleep for night feeding.
  4. Sacrifice some of your working hours to pump.
  5. Take a very good care of your food intake to ensure a high quality breastmilk.
  6. Be in deep worry when your milk supply turns haywire.
  7. Labelled as this and that, just because you wanna give the best for your baby.
  8. Fill your freezer EBM stocks.
  9. Telan anything on Earth to boost up your milk supply.
  10. Berkejar ke sana sini cari pertolongan when problem arises.
  11. Perkara yang boleh membawa depresi ialah drop in supply.
  12. Bring all your pumping gears when you go outstation.
  13. Have your blouse wet just because you forget your nursing pads.
  14. Tahan your breast bengkak when the baby is not with you and you don’t bring breastpump and you don’t know how to express by hand!
  15. Face the ouch! of cracked nipple, engorgement, biting babies, etc.
  16. Learn.
  17. Breastfeeding in public.

Do you think you’re ready to breastfeed? Think again ...

P/S: oo lagi satu.... bersedia untuk peragai baby anda jadi tak senonoh camni kalau breastfeed :D

To me (yes me, elly)....breastfeeding is SACRIFICE... sacrifice sleep, sacrifice time, sacrifice comfort of no pain.... etc.... tang sleep tu yang paling tak tahan tu...

the point is... dont think breastfeeding is easy... senang lagi kalau aku bagi formula je.... some people think breastfeeding should be easy and natural.. and bila susah, they think it is not supposed to be susah.. and so they quit....

by the way... mak mak sape yg berjaya fully breastfeed their child?
I think its interesting to see that most of our mother did not breastfeed us...
and in my opinion it is due to LACK OF KNOWLEDGE AND INFORMATION !!..

we are so lucky to have easy and fast access to breastfeeding information nowadays.. Alhamdulillah...

Thursday, August 20, 2009

huh.. arini berjaya gak dapat around 20 oz...

yg kiri pagi kul 8.30
tengah ku 12:30
kanan kul 4.30

tapi seksa gak... sebab masih ade saki baki stress... and terkejar sana sini
(office and klass jauh gak.. plus aku skip the free lunch utk pump)..
so susah sket letdown.. maka setiap pump session is around 15 mins...
(lama sket dari biasa).. ni tak campo pasang and cleaning up... just pumping..

saje .. love my minky wipes!!

keh nak balik... nak test something from this kind person .. jeng jeng jeng.. ;)
standardla ni... i go through this cycle of highs and lows..
every few months... aku rase stress sangat breastfeeding..
especially bila die reverse-cycle.. no sleep..
total i'd day aku tido sehari less than 4.5 hours

pastu campo plak ngn amir yang asik nak bergayut je..
ini la yang paling mencabar...
I cant do houswork (sepah la rumah, coz no luxury of maid)
cant cook..so buy food... then habisla budget aku nak beli pleats..
then cant eat.. cant drink when I need to..
cant poop cant pee...when I need to.. so asik kena tahan..

semalam aku nak buat something with maybank2u...
amir nak bergayut and tido..
aku nak larikan diri, die bangun and nak boobs..
sedut 1-2 times then tido.. but aku gerak, die sedut balik..
then bila finally die tak sedar.. internet plak takde...
bengangnye aku!!!!...then bila internet ade, amir plak bangun balik...
pastu aku plak nak terkencing .. aku gi jamban coz mood aku tgh screw eveything..
melalak aa amir... I blamr fking p1 wimax.. yang super suxxxx!! merosakkan mood aku..

kelmarin aku nak terkencing and super dupe haus and lapar..
tapi again amir dalam mood nak gayut and tido...
die lak nak aku baring skali.. how aku nak eat and drink...
rafiq bagi aku cup and straw.... tunggu tido baru leh makan...

combination and culmunation of all.. will break me down..
and bila aku break down, aku amek kesempatan melepaskan semua tensen..
nangeh puas puas for all various reason... tak dapat install photoshop, tak dapat beli pleat pun termasuk gakla reasons nak nangeh semalam... lepas tu okay balik,

nak aje aku take the easy way out.. just exclusively pump... bm jugak kan..
senang gile hidup aku.... no more sore nipples.. bloody nipple ..
(still got it bila tergigit ngn the 8 teeths amir tu)
ade freedom to do what I want... the freedom to not hold my own pee...
to poop whenever I need to poop...
malam2 pon boleh je aku suruh papa panaskan susu, so I can get my beauty sleep longer.. life will be much easier...

but there's more benefit with breastfeeding...
which I will get into it next time...todays session is for venting....
so harini aku akan hanya focus on the tensen side of breastfeeding...
(so sesapa yg membace jangan la discourage.. jangan ingat takde mende best nursing baby.. 80% is good... 20% is tensen.. tapi harini aku nak rant on the tensen part.... ilangkan stress)

but everytime aku got over myself and renew the resolve to continue breastfeeding
I am happy I got over the obstacle and tak amek jalan senang...
sangat senang nak putus usaha... it's a test of your kesabaran..
seriusly... the mantra... its just a phase.. helps a lot... sakit dan seksa hanya sementara...

but I am still not happy financially...
oh yeah! I blame money too.... If I had enough money to shop (retail therapy)...
dont think i'd be stress about the things above hahhahaa (I wish)

harini course... so kena pam 3 kali... stressnye... gtg pump!!!

Friday, August 14, 2009

okeh tak cukup penutup pulak.. terbabas...
seb baik sanaa ade... pinjam satu...

kiranye quantity wise susu normal aa..
tapi aku my mind rase cam sikit...

sama cam kalau aku melantak.. weightwise beratnye maintain sama je
tapi aku akan rase gemuk gile..

disebabkan susu cukup, tak perlu la berbuka posa...

P/S: MBW booth for tomorrow's event at Hospital Pantai Bangsar is cancelled, due to Jess's son Arthur demam... I was supposed to help her tomorrow.... nak suruh aku handle sorang2, dont think I can do it hehehe...

Also Tiny Tapir's BW Talk... MBW booth also cancelled (as per Jess's sms)
I am not sure whether the event itself is still on...
Syaz... on ke tak? I'm supposed meet Kak Shada to get my SB double linen RS back.. If on, I'm going...
crisis update

Sesi petang kul 2.15 dapat 6-7 oz saje..
so total around 18 oz lagi harini...
aku pam awal coz kang balik smayang jumaat kang kecoh2 nak buat document ...
mungkin kul 4.30 aku pam lagi...

5 perkara nikmat....
http://zurahamid.blogspot.com/2009/08/to-fill-in-gaps.html

1. makan atas katil depan tv....sorang2.... bawah aircond ..
this is what I do in my alone time....bestnyeee..
mungkin baring terus, or separa baring.. tengok amende yg aku makan

2. baring atas katil sorang2, bawah aircond bace katalog-katalog sale
my guilty pleasuree...

3. makan durian.... oh and cheese.... bila makan mende2 ni rase fuuh nikmat satu macam

4. tido lepas makan.... ini aku elakkan aaa takut buncit.. tapi kalau la tak buncit/gemuk.. aku tido terus lepas makan.. bestnye....

5. tido sorang2 bawah aircond (pentingnye aircon ni), atas katil sendiri, selimut sendiri dan bantal busyuk aku sendiri ... aku benci tido katil lain.. termasukla jugak katil hotel..(no guarantee yg katil depa tu sedap).. aku tekankan sorang2 ni, sebab amir selalu pusing sana sini tgh2 malam... so aku tido pun separa lelap jer.. sentiasa ready nak bangun incase die melalak....tapi for the past 2 weeks elok gak die tido...(but the week before that was hell, reverse cycling) bangun 2-3 times for breastfeeding je... so okayla ni...tapi aku suka gile lepas rafiq bangun pagi and bawak amir to send of to sitter kul ~6.15 pagi tu..tido dari 6.15 till 7.30 tu tido paling nikmat aku... sebab aku takyah risau ade org tetiba nangeh ke, or panjat2 aku nak susu..

I am tagging: sanaa, vivi, eddcruz, nakblogjugak, and kakeila

p/s: ohh btw aku lain sket, aku tak suka punggah keluar mende2 yg aku beli lepas shopping..sebab aku lepas beli barang aku akan depressed sebab duit takde.. dah jadik barang... tapi kalau barang2 tu murah, aku suka gak buat hahaha....

Susu aku harini okay....Hasil pam pagi... 11 oz gitu ..
walaupun aku rase aku lagi superstress hari ini...
benci betul AOG AOG ni... aku nak tukar keje la.....
taktau lagi susu aku petang ni camnerr...

oo btw...
Rafiq kata semalam amir minum 2 botol beso (20 oz aa ni)
ngn 2 frozen stock masa aku keje
Frozen stock tu at least 5 oz each.. (aku guna playtex 8oz)
so total... 30 oz at least….(ini tak campo petang lepas aku balik keje and malam)
Pastu makan gak.. bukan tak makan cam selalu…
aku makan nasik ayam, die nak nyibuk..
Tapi aku bagi soya.. die minum 2-3 sip.. pastu nak boobs hahaha adehhh..
vitagen pun gitu selalunyee.....
sedap lagi ke susu aku dari soya/vitagen? power power...
ala nak meleset ngn aku la tuh.....

Growth spurt kot…

Thursday, August 13, 2009

aku sungguh stress nih.... banyak tul masalah duniawi...
susu semalam pam 18 oz saja.....
so skang aku tambah stress sebab susu sikit...
harini posa... sambil stress... mmg carik nahas....
tapi harini dapat 18 oz gak... okla tuh kot...
aku cam tak yakin je dapat fulfill posa arinih....
aku siap bawak bekal.. incase nak berbuka hahaha...
tengok la cemana...

Monday, August 10, 2009

EDIT: previous post... yg amir minum 20-24 oz per day tu... time aku takde (kat opis)... tak amek kira lagi sesi bergayut dipetang dan malam hari... in total, tah bape banyak susu die minum tah...

Sukanye aku baca review breastpumps disini..
next time org tanye aku.. aku bagi link ni jelah...

http://neeza79.blogspot.com/2009/02/re-review-breastpumps.html

pastu curiousnye nak tau pasal pumpinpal ni...
nak beli lah hahahaha.....
tapi then nak kena beli personal fit flanges lak
tapi nak tunggu soft-fit aku nih hanco dulu aa ..
(tak lama lagi pun... lemah aa soft-fit nih)
sebab leceh nak handsfree kat rumah time aku pakai sleeping bra or no bra hahaha

http://neeza79.blogspot.com/2008/12/handfree-pumping.html

Like father like son.... rindulah kat amir... (setiap isnin aku homesick)
huhyahh.. dah nak mencecah 14 bulan aku exclusively breastfeed..
I am loving my Medela Freestyle more and more..
kalau die kong kang... aku pun kong kot....
nanti aku nak gi visit nani with her newborn...
shes using ameda lactaline... curious aku nak tengok pam tu...

anyways... statement aku kat facebook aritu...
menyedarkan aku.. yg aku took FS for granted...
basically was like this

Me: pump 20 oz kat opis yg stress, tapi cuti tanpa amir (so kena pam) kat rumah dapat 16 oz je...ape kes?
others: waaa 20 oz brape kali pam?
me: 20 oz 2 kali pam... 1st pump: 11-12 oz, 2nd pump: 8-9 oz
others: 1hr pumping ke baru u dpt that 11-12oz? tak sakit ke nipples pam lelama..?

terkejut aku yang die ingat aku nak spend time pam sejam...
mane boleh hilang dari cube sejam gitu, 2 kali lak tu hehehe....
then baru aku sedar.... org lain just dont get how easy and fast freestyle is....
aku pun terlupa betapa susahnye zaman2 pre-FS..
pastu baru aku tau.. yg die pam 3 kali kat opis...
setiap kali pam at least 30 mins...
total bawak balik around 15 oz..

mungkin kena explain betapa cepat, pantasnye medela.....
(pastu Mye pun senang hati gak sebab nak beli FS hehehe)

aku pam 2 kali je kat office...
1. at 9-10 am (akan dapat 11-12 oz dalam 9-10 minit)
2. at 2-3 pm (akan dapat 8-9 oz dalam masa 9-10 minit)
so campo time nak pasang2, and cuci-cuci semua... 15 mins jela setiap sesi aku pumping....

timing tu memang betul, bukan agak2..
sebab freestyle ade timer hahaha...
aku dah settingkan...
letdown phase,0-48seconds....
then selepas tu expressing phase dari saat ke 49 ke 4-5 minit...
then aku rehat.. off the pump...seminit rehat... recovery
then aku sambung pam.....again letdown phase sampai 48 seconds..
then expressing phase for 2-3 mins (2nd letdown ni cepat abis)

pastu aku nak justify gak harga medela freestyle...
disebabkan amir minum susu banyak gile..
aku letak sebulan harga susu RM200..
p/s: compare amir yg now still drinking 20oz per day...
syaz kata Ari (1 mth younger than amir) minum 10 oz perday...
bayangkan la gile susu amir tu... tengok dagu pun tau...

so RM 200 x 14 months... RM 2,800 (cost to buy formula for 14 months)

Aku dah penah beli
1. Avent manual, isis : RM 200
2. Spectra 3: RM 400
3. Medela Mini-electric: RM 400
4. Medela Freestyle: RM 1200
Total: RM 2200

Maka aku masih untung RM600.... kalau aku tak jual previous pumps..
tapi aku dah jual all 3 pumps...aku dapat RM 400 for all 3 pumps...
so basically aku dah untung RM1000....
walaupun dengan aku beli freestyle yg mahal ni lambat...

aku sebnanye tak kisah pun samada ade FS ni terbayar balik ke idak...
asalkan boleh maintain susu banyak.. coz bagi breastmilk tu tak ternilai..
tapi since dah terbayar balik... bagus la... saje nak bagitau rafiq...
(in case aku gatal nak beli pam lain lagi hahahha.. so u need to know yg FS ni dah dibayar-balik dah)

also nak point out... sejak ade FS, aku tak risau langsung pasal susu...
Alhamdulillah, cukup sentiasa... kalau pam tak cukup pun, maybe coz aku period or aku malas or amir tgh feeding gile2... tapi ni dibantu ngn frozen stock yg masih banyak....tidak lagi aku hidup dalam kerisauan.. cam zaman spectra.. "alamak, tinggal 4 je frozen..." "alamak...dah tinggal 2..." "alamak zerooo"

sekian iklan medela freestyle....
(aku tau mye, zoora and sanaa tengah intai-intai FS hehehe)

mye

akhirnye baru terungkai persoalan pam bising nih...

aku baru sedar, bila aku pakai freestyle, pumping, everything dah lekap...
bunyik die lagi senyap dari kalau the pump is on and nothing is connected...
same with swing...

so aku selama ni dok bandingkan bunyik swing (yg aku on kan je... takde sape pakai.. takkan aku nak pakai swing org kot)
with the sound of my freestyle yg bunyik time aku pam/ aku pakai..

so aku rase freestyle bunyik slow-er

i think org yg ade swing.. then dengar freestyle pun cam tu gakla..
so diorang rase freestyle bising-er...

papehal pun dedua lagi bising dari spectra..
but after 2 days stuck in KLIA hangar... semua tempat pumpable yg dekat ngn opis takde power outlet... so thank god for FS... senang gile aku ngepam kat memana pun, aman bahagia, just carik bilik secluded je... dulu with spectra, aku jalan jauh.... 100 meter lebeh gitu semata2 nak gi pam sebab kena ade power outlet...

tapi nih... si An tu beli from US and die hantar balik utk servis...
http://neeza79.blogspot.com/2009/07/kenapa-nak-jual.html
maybe can ask her how that works... US warranty
brape lama nak servis, shipping semua sape tanggung etc etc...
die ade FS... then rase cam tak stabil.. so die antar perbetulkan kat US
sambil tu die tak tahan nak tunggu, die beli PISA.... tapi rase tak sebest FS...
then beli lagi satu FS sebab ingatkan expecting...
tu yg die nak jual satu tu... (dah terjual)

sambung dari komen aku kat facebook mye ..
ni just nak explain perubahan seblum and selepas pakai medela freestyle..
aksi-aksi pengepaman ko refer sini...

1. sejak 2-3 months seblum aku beli/pakai FS, aku pakai spectra 3 and the supply was dwindling down, slowly dia turun, makin sket... and was slowly using up all my frozen stash... dahla aku dok campo sket air nak top up susu (to send to sitter during daytime)... aku send with 2 botol 10 oz... 9 oz EBM, aku masuk botol tambah 1 oz water.... rationing my milk... tapi tu pon stock aku dwindling.... bila aku cecah only 2 frozen stash left.... baru aku decided to buy FS.... but as u can note here... my production was on the way down for the duration of 2-3 months... bila FS aku sampai, stash aku ZERO.... sampai right on time... gile lah...

2. after aku pakai FS, susu makin banyak...
and orang2 yg perati susu aku mmg komen naik.. iaitu rafiq...
die uruskan susu amir pagi pagi.. he commented... whoo banyaknye susu...
and also my officemate, we share a fridge and take turns pumping.. and die pun notice the increase... weii gile banyak susu kau...
(so its not just my imagination)... tak perlu aku add water sket tu hahah 100% EBM.
lagipun sebab seblum tu sgt sikit susu aku.. so tu yg noticeable kot..

usually dapat 5oz tops each time pam, menyebabkan aku kena pam selalu...
pam slalu tapi tak naik naik pon...
kenkadang pam angin, so meaning I waster 15mins for nothing...
lepas FS tetiba naik dapat ~10 oz sekali harung..
(ikut time gak la kalau aku period maybe 7oz je, but kalau guna spectra i'd get 3-4 oz je time period.. soo its an increase also..)

2 March 2009 @ 9:02 AM - Masih guna spectra 3, last day

2 March 2009 @ 3:17 PM - Masih guna spectra 3 last day

15 March 2009 @ 10:08 AM - Dah pakai FS since 3 or 4th March camtu ..

29 April 2009 @ 9:07 AM - Dah pakai FS...

At variation, due to hormones, stress, amir reverse/normal cycling, etc....
Low ouput guna FS would be look like this, botol tak penuh.. lowest i think around 7oz camtu (aku bandingkan pagi punye outcome):

High output guna FS would be like this....
1 kali pam tapi terbabas sampai kena guna 2 bottles

3. Also, now no effort is needed for the 1st letdown...
aku tak start pum pun dah letdown...
dulu I have to concentrate real hard to even get the 1st letdown...
tengok movie amir, tgk gamba amir etc..
skang ni.... aku masuk pantry, lock the door....
open my shirt, unclasp the bra... let the boobs air out... perubahan suhu..
sambil2 tu aku akan pasang the corong2 and valves... (bab ni leceh sket FS)..
so time ni nipples dah cam di train yg lepas diorang bebas dari bra, diorang akan dipam...
die rase perubahan suhu.. dalam bra panas, lepas tu tetiba sejuk... merenyut...then letdown..
for the past month, aku tak sempat nak ON pam pun, dah letdown....
kenkadang aku rase cam race againts time...
sebab aku tak pasang lagi attachment nak pam ni... tapi susu dah nak keluar..
(macam org sakit perut berlari-lari carik jamban je rase...cepat, cepat cepat, sempat tak ni?)

tahla, aku rase macam magic gakla....
takde org sedut, takde pam sedut.. but still can let down..
kenkadang aku tak sempat pasang, habis seluar aku kena susu menitik..
harini, mmg tak sempat... menitik la atas lantai... aku masih tgh nak pasang attachments...

maybe "Pavlovian effect?"....
yg ujikaji bagi food kat anjing sambil bunyik loceng, anjing tu will drool..
then after a few times buat camtu.. dog is conditioned..
by just bagi loceng bunyik, no food.. the dog will drool...
aku bukak bra, tapi tak pam... tapi will letdown...
I think lah... hahahha

4. pastu.. 90% of the time, I would get a 2nd letdown... so tu pasal kot susu meningkat...
maybe due to the 2 phase expression thingy..
now everytime, i'd get a 2nd letdown.. except for the time aku nak cepat... so aku malas nak spend time pumping, after 1st letdown aku terus cabut and basuh

5. tapi aku benci gile nak cuci and pasang attachments die...
menbuatkan aku malas nak pam selalu.. so aku pam 2 kali je sehari...
2 kali pam dapat 20oz, cukupla nak bagi kat sitter..
kalau aku rajin, boleh je nak pam 3-4 kali... time ni yg aku bina frozen stock...
skang stock aku dah terbina.. 22 times 7 oz frozen stash...
dalam masa 3 bulan aku guna FS ni...
tapi malas betul aku nak pam... lecehs... kalau aku rajin, sure berstock-stock...

6. pastu silicone breastshield die ni cam fragile.. senang lose shape, thus losing suction bila dah lose shape.. so kena ganti selalu.. syaz kata 6 mths die ganti baru.. around rm60..

5. pastu disebabkan susu aku banyak... aku tak jaga makan... no more eating oatmeals, soya, longan.... now I eat crap.. buncit aa plak aku rase.... so ini pun payah gak.... i have no motivation to eat healthily....

SEKIAN TERIMA KASIH....

DISCLAIMER: AKU TAK PROMOTE FS, TAPI NI CITER PENGALAMAN AKU SENDIRIK JER.... MUNGKIN KORANG PAKAI SUSU MERUDUM/TAK NAIK?? AKU TAKTAU AA TU...

anyways feel free to meet me to hear and see the FS...
aku gi gathering 4 july ni..
also usually aku kat curve ahad.. gym... so holla at me....

BREASTFEEDING JOURNEY TO 1 YEAR OLD, PART I

(belum habis citer labor dah bukak citer baru hahah)

ooo and I forgot... yesterday marks the 1 year of fully breastfeeding amir..
after 6 months of exclusively BF la
(yes, aku nak gak ngaku exclusively ...
I choose to ignore the 1 oz of formula that amir drank after 2 days of life.. sebab sungguh negligible..
1oz is nothing compared to all the freakin hard work and effort and time and pain and the thousands of ozs to BF my baby...
so I'm saying exclusively and fully... )

anyways.. as I was saying... it has been 1 full year!...
memula, aku tak kisah pun .. whatever lah...
then aku nak at least the colostrum for my baby....
then lepas aku beli pam spectra.. aku nak at least 2 months fully BF.. so that can get my money's worth buying spectra 3 for RM400..
then aku target 4 mths.. then 6 months.. now dah 1 year...
sebab makin lama, aku makin nampak the benefits of BF..... people can say good things.. but until u experience it yourself, baru motivated...
and I have to say.... the effect of fully breastfeeding has been great (on the baby, not me.. the effect was hell on me)..
setakat ni... only 3 serius case of demam/high temp... (serius as in serius enough for me to bring him to see a dr. lah... not dying serius)
2 of those involves runny nose and sakit tekak batuk...

no constipation.... taik kuar semua lembut..
eventhough he did go for more than 10 days without pooping...
I wasnt worried... but orang semua sebok nak suruh aku bagi prune juice, apple juice, orange juice...
nasib baik aku DEGIL !!!!...
sometimes u need to trust your own instict...
aku tau formula babies mmg prone to constipation...
but exclusively BF babies are known for sometimes taking days between each poop...
just rejoice at not having to change poop diapers jelah...

okeh aku malas nak citer sal kebaikan BF... u can google it
nak citer sal the BF journey

PRE-LABOR

memula aku beli avent isis.. manual
the only pump I knew.. coz tu je yang in mainstream market...
bought it before baby lahir...
coz ade sale hahaha.. and coz dapat bottles/teats and thermal bag...
so kalau pam pam takde hasil (me no milk)...
at least can use the avent bottles and bag..

POSTLABOR

After labor, cuci cuci baby, dr tanye nak breastfeed ke formula..
aku reply "breastfeed kot" ..sambil tengok rafiq... I can go both ways..
(little did I know, this answer was really crutial and quite a turning point)
then nurse bagi baby suruh breastfeed.. tapi amir being amir, degil and pursed his lips tanak susu...
so giveup..... (I didnt know about the WHO(?) mission, to breastfeed newborn within first 30 mins of life)
then masa kat spital, nurses kept bringing the baby to me to be fed...
I was tired...so aku slalu cuba.. and bila susah nak latch .. or terunlatch..
i kept sending the baby back to nursery hahah
I want sleep damnit!
sampai one time.. a nurse indian garang ..bawak baby and cakap baby tak kenyang, susukan...
i told her I just fed him for 1/2 hour.. now no milk..
then die pulas nipple aku... susu keluar.... "tu susu, feed the baby"
damn, garang gileerr.....!
and also setiap pagi (2 pagi je aku kat situ)....lactation nurse datang lawat and gave me tips how to hold..
how to store milk, how to thaw, what not to do ...
(DONT PUT CABBAGE ON YOUR BREAST....I was like, why the heck would I do that?
turns out ramai bagi aku nasihat ni.. even the makcik tukang urut, which makes me even more sure yang segala pantang larang tu sebnanye crap.....)

also... masa discharge hospital, aku tunggu kat waiting room seblah nursery.. rafiq gi bayar...
then ade another chinese couple... pun nak discharge.... nurse tu kasik tin susu, and other sample formulaes...
I was like... free stuff! aku pun nak.... (kiasu-nye)
but diorang tak bagi kat aku.... they gave me medela pureLan cream (big tube)... and breast silicon compress...
(and other free stuff cam pampers etc)...

masa tu aku dissappointed apsal tak bagi aku susu... 1 tin okay...
now I see the committment of SJMC to support breastfeeding... maybe not promoting... they let u make a choice....
but once u decide to BF.. they support it...and stick to it.. by not offering free formulaes ..
eventhough the formula companies would give them samples and money to distribute their products..
coz I know some hospital do still give out free formula to every mother regardless whether they are BF or formula...
and when the hospital do that... then that somewhere down the road... will help menjatuhkan usaha BF tu..
moms will be like.. alamak formula ni rugi tak guna.... lets use it!.. then supply will drop when u introduce formula...
anyways, after that I found out that the medela PureLan tube cost Rm50.. and the compress pun Rm50+...
so I was pacified for not getting free formula....heheheh....

AT HOME

latching was problem...... coz I got 1 inverted nipple... (now not inverted at all!! hhahaha TMI??)...

to be continued...

Hot Milk - The unbottled truth about formula
John Hoffman

It’s a safe bet that most parents who use infant formula — and the majority of Canadian parents do at one time or another — know little about it. One reason is the difficulty in finding an unbiased, unpoliticized source of information about formula. There are those who would prefer parents didn’t use it; they don’t like to talk for fear of promoting formula. Others openly promote it, offering vague and sometimes misleading marketing info but few details. Still others try to be more balanced, but in an attempt to avoid guilt trips, they soft-pedal the differences between formula and human milk.*

The one thing all these sources agree on — at least they all say so — is that “breast is best,” which leads to much discussion and, at times, debate about breastfeeding. All the while, formula sits quietly on the shelf, relatively unscrutinized. We hear and read a lot about breastfeeding, but little about formula. It’s time to correct that with some straight answers.

What is in formula?

Most infant formula comes from cow’s milk (the exception is soy formula), but a lot has to happen before it goes from the cow to the can and, ultimately, babies. The short, blunt version is that the manufacturing process literally takes cow’s milk apart and puts it back together again with some components left out and others added.
Cow’s milk is very high in saturated fat, which human babies have trouble digesting, and low in monounsaturates, the main fats in human milk. So the first step is to remove all the fat. The resulting skim milk is heated, then dehydrated if it’s going to be in powdered form. Then new fats, in the form of vegetable oil blends, are added along with proteins, milk sugar (lactose) and a long list of nutrients, vitamins and minerals that are required by federal regulation to approximate their levels in breastmilk.

Cow’s milk has three times as much protein as breastmilk. Calves need this because they grow so quickly, but for human babies it would put too much of a load on the liver and kidneys. Cow’s milk also has a higher proportion of casein to whey — the two kinds of proteins in mammal milks — than breastmilk does. So formula manufacturers must reduce the overall amount of protein and add extra whey to mimic the protein balance found in breastmilk.

Other ingredients prevent the mixture from separating or going bad. Some formulas have thickeners, and specialized formulas for premature babies have enhanced levels of nutrients. Any newly developed formula must meet a number of safety and nutritional standards, including clinical evidence that it is nutritionally adequate to promote normal growth.

What’s not in formula?
Human milk is a complex substance which, even now, is not fully understood. The list of known breastmilk components not present in formula is too long to go into fully and includes enzymes, hormones, growth factors and substances that fight infection and help develop the immune system.

Simply put, human milk is alive, says James Friel, professor of human nutrition at the University of Manitoba. “Some components are biologically active. They play a role that goes far beyond nutrition,” he explains. “For example, if you put an oxidant stressor — something like cigarette smoke — in breastmilk, it resists the stressor, and breastmilk does this better than formula even though formula contains more antioxidants. That strikes me as odd and I wish I understood it better.” Friel thinks it might one day be possible to add biologically active material to formula, but doesn’t expect to see this any time soon.

One important biologically active component of human milk is a protein called secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA), which has the ability to bind to foreign substances (including harmful bacteria) so they can be eliminated from the body. It lines the wall of the gut, which is one of the main entry points for infection. Colostrum, the thicker milk that a mother’s body produces in the first few days, is especially high in sIgA.

Formula contains these little fighters as well, although they’re less plentiful and they’re bovine (cow) immunglobulins which are programmed to recognize micro-organisms that cause disease in cattle rather than humans, and operate in the bloodstream rather than the gut. Bottle-fed babies still develop immune systems, obviously, but they miss out on some of the early and long-term protection provided by sIgA.
The most immediate threat from lack of sIgA is during the first weeks of life, when a baby’s gut is vulnerable to infection. Advances in hygiene and sanitation, plus ready access to treatment, have made life-threatening gastrointestinal infections rare in Canadian babies. But they still cause considerable illness and many infant deaths in the developing world, where powdered formula is sometimes mixed with contaminated water.

Another biological capability, present in breastmilk but not formula, is the ability to alter itself. Breastmilk changes, both as the baby grows and during each feeding. Foremilk, which is produced at the start of each feeding, is relatively low in fat. As the baby sucks, the level of fat rises, satisfying him and lulling him into that blissful state a nursing mom loves to see. The fat levels of human milk also change in the baby’s second six months, when his growth rate slows. In recent years new formulas, called follow-up formulas, have been designed to more closely match some of the nutritional needs of an older baby.

How close is formula to breastmilk?
Both are milks that can sustain fledgling human life, but the similarity ends there. Nutrients in a man-made substance do not work the same way as they do in a naturally occurring substance. As dietitian Cristine Bradley, senior manager of medical affairs for Indiana-based formula maker Mead Johnson, puts it: “Compositionally, I’d call it apples to apples but functionally, it’s apples to oranges in many ways.”
A couple of examples: Iron was added to formula in the 1980s. However, the iron in formula is not nearly as well absorbed as that in breastmilk, so formula must contain considerably more for a baby to get the same amount.

Another example is nucleotides, which are the building blocks of DNA and RNA and help strengthen the immune system. After they were added to formula in the ’90s, Bradley says, the expected immunity benefit was not borne out. “There was some excitement about this for a while, but after inconsistent research findings it was generally agreed that this was not as promising as we first thought.”

What are they doing to improve formula?
Although formula is still fundamentally different from human milk, several significant improvements have been made in the past 30 years, including fine-tuning to improve the balance of proteins and the blend of fats. Manufacturers have added new varieties, including lactose-free formulas, special formulas for premature and ill babies, and hydrolyzed formulas with predigested protein, for infants with digestion problems.

The most recent innovation is the addition of two long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids called DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and ARA (arachidonic acid). Both play a key role in brain development and it has been theorized, though never proven, that the presence of DHA and ARA in breastmilk may explain why breastfed babies score higher than formula-fed babies on toddler mental development tests.

This past winter Canadian babies got their first taste of formula with DHA and ARA (made from algae and fungus, respectively). The question is, will these additives make formula-fed children smarter, as the “A+” in one product’s name implies?
Sheila Innis, a professor of paediatric nutrition at the University of British Columbia, says the clinical research is mixed. “I would be very cautious about making that statement for a healthy full-term baby. In one small study, 18-month-old babies fed formula with DHA and ARA scored higher as a group than babies fed standard formula, but four other larger studies showed no difference. The evidence is much clearer for premature babies, who are born without stores of these and other nutrients.”

What are the risks associated with formula?
There are risks associated with formula feeding. To help mitigate them, parents need to fully understand them.

Improper mixing: Formula should be mixed exactly according to directions. Some parents have made mistakes, sometimes because of literacy or language problems. Some have over-diluted powdered formula, which can lead to malnutrition, or failed to properly dilute concentrated liquid formula, sometimes in a misguided attempt to increase nutrients. The result can be dehydration and kidney problems.

Contamination: Formula manufacturers say their quality control and product safety are the tightest in the food industry. Still, any man-made food carries the risk of contamination. In recent years there have been several small, isolated outbreaks of serious illness and a few deaths (mostly premature babies or those with immune problems) caused by a bacterium called E. sakazakii which was found to have come from powdered formula. (The outbreaks prompted Health Canada to recommend liquid formula — which is less likely than powder to be contaminated — for bottle-fed babies who are immuno-compromised or in intensive care.)

The take-home message is that powdered infant formula is not a sterile product and must be handled and stored properly. Dawn Walker, a nurse and former executive director of the Canadian Institute of Child Health, says that one of the most common infant feeding questions she hears is, “Can I reheat formula?” “The answer is no,” Walker says. “Once formula has been warmed up for use, if you reheat it, bacteria growth increases exponentially. It’s very risky.”

Illness: Statistically, formula-fed babies are more likely to get colds, ear infections, milk allergies, diarrhea, urinary tract infections and bacterial meningitis. How much more likely? That’s hard to say. Obviously, few babies (formula fed or not) get meningitis, so the risk is very low to begin with. With more common illnesses like ear infections, other factors also increase the risk — such as whether mom smokes or the child is in group daycare. One large study of two- to seven-month-old babies found that the risk of ear infection increased with the proportion of formula in the child’s diet; those fed entirely on formula were twice as likely (13.2 percent) as those who breastfed exclusively (6.8 percent) to have had an ear infection in the past month.

Bottle-fed infants are also at greater risk for becoming overweight; they grow and gain weight more quickly and, on average, are less lean than breastfed babies. One large German study of five- and six-year-olds found a 4.5 percent rate of obesity among those who had been bottle-fed, compared with 2.8 percent for breastfed children. Since it’s mom or dad who decides how much goes in the bottle and when, a formula-fed baby may not learn to read his body’s signals as easily as one who nurses on demand. Stephanie Atkinson, professor of nutrition in paediatrics at McMaster University, comments, “I’m concerned that there may be some kind of metabolic programming going on that may explain the increased rates of obesity in formula-fed children.”

Another concern is that formula-fed children may face an increased risk for developing Type 1 diabetes. Some studies have found a higher incidence in children who were exclusively formula-fed or who were breastfed for less than three months. Other research has found that early exposure to cow’s milk increases the likelihood of developing a type of antibody that can be found in children with diabetes. No clear link has been established, but a major ten-year international study was launched in 2002 to compare the rates of Type 1 diabetes in babies fed standard formula versus those fed hydrolyzed formula.

When you add up all the risk factors, it sounds daunting. However, trying to predict the likelihood that any one child will get any one illness is impossible. Likewise, lower risk is no guarantee; some breastfed babies get ear infections and some bottle-fed babies don’t. And let’s face it: There are a lot of healthy adults walking around who were raised on formula.

If we look at formula as a medical intervention, a way to nourish a baby when breastmilk is not available, it stands up fairly well. The problem is that this substitute became a competitor. And formula simply can’t compete with human milk. Here’s how James Friel views it: “We’ve been making formula for over 100 years and I’ve spent 20 years of my life trying to make formula better. All the people I’ve dealt with in the industry are honest, hard-working and dedicated. In spite of that, we are still unable to make formula that comes very close to human milk and, for me, that’s a disappointment. We try to break human milk down into its components and put it back together again, but it really doesn’t work that way.”

Formula’s greatest achievement may be that, although it still doesn’t really compare to human milk, it has become a reasonably safe substitute that has improved over the years. Perhaps that is all it ever can be.

Soy: Who Needs It?
About 15 percent of the formula sold in Canada is soy based. Soy formula was developed because many babies had trouble digesting cow’s milk formula. In recent years concerns have been raised because soy formulas contain high levels of isoflavones, a plant-based form of the hormone estrogen. Isoflavones have been found to affect the fertility and sexual development of rats. No clear link has been made to problems in humans, although researchers are paying attention.

According to Stephanie Atkinson, professor of nutrition in paediatrics at McMaster University, the real story about soy formula is that too many parents are using it inappropriately. “Very few infants actually need soy formula,” she says. “Non-breastfed infants who have trouble digesting regular formula would do better on the new hydrolyzed cow’s milk formulas [where the protein is predigested]. But many parents are still switching to soy formula when there is a digestion problem. The only sound indication for soy formula that I can think of would be a non-breastfeeding mother who wants her baby to follow a strict vegan diet.”
* The terms human milk and breastmilk will be used interchangeably, as will formula-fed and bottle-fed.

Aiyoo.. ammar, u want pics of the medela freestyle pump ke...? sama je cam kat online...
but since u asked...i thought it would be fun to show what a typical pumping session looks like..

=======================================================================

1. This is my susu bag... pamnye kecik je, attachments yg banyak.. put in tupperware..

2. This is how it looks when assembled, with handsfree attachments.. using 1 large bottle, 1 small

=======================================================================

1. With the handsfree .. attaches to standard nursing bras

2. Without the handsfree...

=======================================================================

1. I'm currently pumping while watching Shin Chan... I put my hand there, so u can judge the size

2. I'm done..... susu not as much as usual explained below

=======================================================================

1. Ada 3 parts .. ini yg aku malas gile nak pasang and cuci each time..

2. All done... Usually I can get full bottle (till the neck).. 10 oz aa..
Now is the week before period, this is the time where susu dipping low..
but previous before using freestyle, when my susu was low, I only got 3-4 oz...
so for me, this is awesome...
